Our Methodology
360now is built on a structured leadership framework, not a generic question set. Here’s how we designed it – from the competencies we measure to the way every question was tested before it reached your clients.
The framework spans the areas that shape how a leader actually shows up – with themselves, with their people, and in setting direction.
Before any question reached a leader, every competency and item was reviewed against seven design tests – a structured, qualitative layer that keeps the feedback clear, usable, and genuinely useful for development.
Every competency is a real, learnable leadership behaviour – not a personality trait or abstract value.
Each competency is distinct enough to be rated and interpreted without overlap or confusion.
Definitions capture the behaviour clearly – observable, role-neutral, and free of jargon.
Every question maps back to its competency, so each competency measures one thing.
Questions cover behaviours raters can actually observe and recall, in plain language.
Each competency evokes one clear, shared picture of leadership behaviour.
Every competency translates into micro-actions, strategies, and resources – feedback that leads to growth.
Before the framework went live, we ran all 37 items past a pilot group of 100 respondents rating 70 different leaders, to check that the questions inside each competency behaved as a set, and to find items that were not working.
Eleven of the twelve competencies performed as designed. Resilience did not – one of its three items asked about recovery habits that raters cannot reliably observe. That item is being rewritten for the next release.
This was a pre-launch pilot, not a normative validation study. The real test is live data, and we have started collecting it. As our dataset of completed assessments grows we will run a full reliability and factor analysis and publish it here, including the parts that do not flatter us.
